Don’t Punish The Children For The Sins Of The Adults: Keep Our Schools Open

Our kids are not the problem; so let’s not create problems for them.

The last day of September dawned glorious and gorgeous in my neighbourhood.

Clouds kissed by the rising sun loomed over a stupendous tapestry of gold, red, yellow, and green; majestic snow-capped mountain peaks stood silently in the background, paying homage to the breath-taking beauty arrayed before them.

It was easy, for a moment, to believe that nothing is amiss in Alberta.

But reality intrudes.

There’s a rumour floating around on Twitter that Alberta’s schools will close on October 4 as part of a much demanded “fire-break” Covid lockdown.

Our hospitals are being suffocated by a crushing wave of mostly unvaccinated — and mostly rural — Albertans. Much-needed medical care for many thousands of other Albertans has been cast aside; all hands are on deck to rescue the Covid-afflicted.
